FiveM Server Monetization Guide

By Luke

fivem monetization guide

Updated September 19, 2026

A FiveM server needs money for hosting, development, maintenance and support. The challenge is covering those costs without damaging the community—or selling something the platform does not permit.

FiveM server monetization starts with the rules, not the checkout. Cfx.re identifies Tebex as its exclusive authorized monetization partner for FiveM and RedM servers and prohibits using another platform or payment provider for that activity. A functioning Stripe integration or a PayPal button is not an alternative authorization. (Cfx Documentation)

Once you have established what you can sell, the practical work begins: describing the offer, setting a sustainable price, connecting payments to the correct player, and making sure delivery still works when something goes wrong.

This guide covers that process from package planning to day-to-day operation. It is operational guidance, not a substitute for legal or tax advice.

1. Check the current FiveM monetization rules

Use primary sources rather than another server’s store as your reference.

Start with Cfx.re’s official Tebex setup documentation. Read it alongside the Creator Platform License Agreement, Tebex Acceptable Use Policy and Tebex Creator Agreement. Rockstar’s roleplay-server policy page also points operators to its governing terms and Mod Guidelines. (Rockstar Games Support)

Monetization methods to exclude

The Creator Platform License Agreement reviewed for this update is dated September 10, 2026. Its restrictions include the following, unless Rockstar expressly permits otherwise through a separate written agreement.

ActivityRestricted monetization
Cash-out systemsReal-money gambling and mechanics that return real-world value to players.
Random rewardsLoot boxes, gacha, drawings and similar mechanics sold for money or in-game currency.
Currency salesSelling in-game virtual currency for real money.
Rockstar-created itemsCommercially offering, selling or facilitating access to Rockstar-created Virtual Items.
Brand promotionsCertain third-party-branded servers and advertising or sponsorship content in-game or in marketplace content.
Third-party resource resaleAggregating other creators’ Server Content for paid sale or licensing to server administrators.
CryptoFacilitating the use, sale or promotion of cryptocurrencies or crypto assets.

These restrictions come from the agreement’s commercial-exploitation section; the list is not exhaustive.

Keep a short record for every proposed package: the exact benefit, the relevant rule, the review date and any written clarification you obtained. Review the package again when its contents change.

Another server selling something is not evidence that you are allowed to sell it.

2. Decide what players receive before choosing a price

“VIP” is a label, not a product description.

Before designing a store banner, finish this sentence:

The buyer receives this specific benefit, on this account or server, for this period, subject to these clearly stated conditions.

Tebex’s Acceptable Use Policy identifies community-related Discord ranks as an acceptable example, while restricting items that affect core gameplay or other servers. Publisher-specific restrictions still apply. Its policy also requires defined deliverables rather than benefits negotiated outside the platform after purchase. (Tebex - Gaming Payments Done Right)

Start with a narrow supporter package

For a first offer, consider a clearly defined recognition package rather than a complicated collection of gameplay advantages.

For example, a named Discord supporter role with no administrative permissions is straightforward to describe and audit. The description should still explain its duration, account-linking requirements and removal conditions.

Treat other ideas—such as queue priority or original cosmetic content—as proposals requiring review, not automatically approved categories. For each proposal, examine the exact implementation, asset rights and effect on gameplay.

For queue priority, for example, your product planning should distinguish a higher queue position from a guaranteed connection. Do not promise immediate entry when server capacity remains a constraint.

As a community policy, keep staff appointments, moderation decisions and complaint handling separate from purchases. Spending money should not buy influence over how other players are treated.

Do not disguise a purchase as a donation

Tebex’s rules distinguish these explicitly: no-benefit donation listings are prohibited, and packages that provide deliverables should not be described as donations. (Tebex - Gaming Payments Done Right)

Use accurate names such as “Supporter Membership” or “Monthly Community Role.” Do not assume that moving a server-linked payment to Patreon, Ko-fi or a personal payment account avoids the monetization rules. Seek written clarification for an uncertain arrangement before accepting money. (Cfx Documentation)

Keep resource sales separate

Selling your own resource to another server owner is a different workflow from selling a player benefit. Cfx.re’s Asset Escrow documentation explains the supported Tebex distribution process for escrowed assets. Review that workflow separately, including the rights to every dependency you include. (Cfx Documentation)

Do not use a nominal resource purchase to conceal a player entitlement on your own server.

3. Set prices around net revenue, not checkout totals

Start with a monthly operating budget. Include hosting, backups, monitoring, development, licensed dependencies, support time and a reserve for unexpected work.

Then calculate how much each purchase actually contributes.

Tebex’s current fees and billing documentation lists a 15% FiveM-specific platform fee, with payment-gateway fees charged separately. Withdrawal and currency-conversion costs may also apply. Check the terms and rates applicable to your account rather than budgeting around the generic 5% platform rate.

A simple break-even example

Assume, purely for illustration:

  • Your monthly operating-cost target is $300.
  • A membership sells for $10 per month.
  • After transaction costs and variable delivery/support costs, it contributes $8.

Your calculation is:

$300 ÷ $8 = 37.5

You therefore need 38 paying memberships to cover that cost target.

That is a planning example, not a revenue forecast or a statement of Tebex’s total effective fees. It also does not provide an owner’s salary unless you included one in the target.

Keep the first pricing structure simple

Launch with one offer you can explain and support properly. Add another only when it serves a genuinely different need.

Avoid starting with five nearly identical tiers. Before introducing an upgrade, decide exactly what changes, whether the old benefit is replaced, and how billing and expiry should behave.

Be particularly cautious with “lifetime” offers. Decide what that means before using the word: the server’s lifetime, the product’s availability, or something else. A defined subscription period is easier to describe without making open-ended promises.

4. Connect Tebex through the official FiveM integration

Follow the current Cfx.re setup instructions: create the appropriate project, connect the game server, configure the generated secret, and complete the required verification and store review. The documented configuration setting is:

sv_tebexSecret YOUR_SECRET_HERE

Use only your actual generated secret in the private server configuration. (Cfx Documentation)

For the practical walkthrough, follow our guide to creating a Tebex store for a FiveM server.

Protect the connection

Keep secrets out of public repositories, screenshots, support messages and client-side code. Restrict configuration access to staff who need it, and rotate a secret after exposure.

A checkout-success screen must not be treated as proof that a player should receive something. Nor should an event sent by the player’s game client.

Cfx.re’s server-security guidance explains that clients can manipulate or trigger events and that authoritative checks belong on the server. Apply that principle to every purchase-related grant. (Cfx Documentation)

5. Use your own website without replacing the authorized checkout

Your community website and your payment system do not have to be the same application.

A practical arrangement is to use your website for server information, rules, guides and package explanations, then send buyers through the authorized purchasing flow.

Tebex also offers a Headless API for custom storefronts. It supports retrieving packages, creating baskets and directing customers to checkout. That provides a customization route without building a separate payment backend.

Where Azuriom fits

Azuriom is an open-source game-community website platform with extensions for features such as forums and shops. Its ability to run shop software should not be confused with authorization to replace FiveM’s required monetization provider. (Azuriom)

Our Azuriom vs Tebex comparison explains the distinction between self-hosted website software and a hosted commerce service.

For the payment-policy boundary, read FiveM Tebex alternatives: what the Cfx.re rules allow.

For a first launch, prefer a standard storefront or a straightforward website-to-store link. Build a custom integration when you have a specific requirement that justifies maintaining it.

6. Write product descriptions that answer the awkward questions

A buyer should not need to join Discord and ask a moderator what a package actually contains.

Tebex’s store-review guidance calls for clear descriptions covering the included benefits, gameplay effects, delivery method, redemption requirements and compatibility.

Use the following as a product-writing worksheet:

QuestionWhat to specify
What am I buying? The exact role, feature or other reviewed benefit—not just a tier name.
Where does it work? The relevant server, community and account.
How much does it cost?Currency, billing frequency and the applicable total before payment.
Does it renew?Whether renewal is automatic and how cancellation works.
When will I receive it?Required account linking and a delivery estimate you have actually tested.
When does it end?The paid-through date or clearly defined duration.
What is excluded?Anything a reasonable buyer might otherwise assume is included.
What happens after a wipe?Whether the entitlement survives a character, economy or database reset.
Where do I get help?A working support route for delivery and account problems.

Example: a clearly defined membership

The following is illustrative package wording, not a pre-approved offer:

Community Supporter — $10 per month

Receive the Community Supporter role in our Discord server for each paid membership period.

This role provides recognition only. It does not include staff permissions, in-game money, items, queue priority or different treatment under the server rules.

Link the Discord account that should receive the role before purchasing. Delivery begins after payment confirmation and successful account linking.

This is a recurring membership. Cancellation stops future renewals; the role remains until the current paid period ends. For a missing role or an account-linking problem, contact the store’s support team.

Publish only wording that matches your real configuration. In particular, do not copy a cancellation promise into the description without testing it.

The current PLA also requires server-facing websites and storefronts to identify the operator, provide a valid email contact, and display a conspicuous non-endorsement disclaimer. Its example is: “[CUSTOM SERVER NAME] IS NOT APPROVED, SPONSORED, OR ENDORSED BY ROCKSTAR GAMES.”

7. Make delivery reliable, repeatable and auditable

Successful payment and successful delivery are separate events. Design your system so staff can identify which one has happened.

For custom fulfilment, maintain a server-side entitlement record: a record of what the player is currently entitled to receive. Include the purchase reference, package identifier, recipient, status, paid-through date where relevant, and delivery history.

A Discord role should reflect that record—not replace it. Someone manually editing a role must not create an unexplained purchase in your records.

Prevent duplicate grants

Idempotent delivery means processing the same purchase again does not grant it twice.

For a membership, that means applying the same paid-through date on a retry rather than adding another month.

Use a unique fulfilment key for each purchased item and billing period. Do not rely on the order reference alone when an order can contain several products.

In your implementation, protect that key with a database uniqueness constraint or an equivalent mechanism. A simple “check, then grant” sequence is not enough when two workers can act simultaneously.

Record pending work before attempting it

A useful delivery workflow is:

Verified purchase → durable pending record → delivery attempt → confirmed result

Record the intended action before attempting the grant, but do not mark it completed until the result is confirmed.

When the game server, database or Discord integration is unavailable, retain the pending work and retry it safely. Give staff a way to see failures and reprocess the original job rather than creating a second purchase.

Verify webhooks and handle late events

For webhook-based integrations, follow Tebex’s webhook documentation. Verify the X-Signature using the documented procedure and original request body. Tebex retries callbacks that do not return a successful HTTP response, so duplicate handling is essential.

Acknowledge a valid callback after it has been accepted into durable storage—not merely received by the application.

Also protect against stale actions. For example, a delayed purchase event should not reactivate a benefit that your records already show as refunded. Reconcile the transaction state before applying an ambiguous update.

8. Handle subscriptions, refunds and disputes deliberately

Do not reduce every payment change to “remove the player’s role.”

Cancellation is not always immediate expiry

Tebex distinguishes an ending subscription from one that is no longer active. Its documentation describes an ending subscription as remaining active without renewing, and provides a customer payment-history portal for managing subscriptions.

Your entitlement system should distinguish those states too.

For each subscription, test the normal renewal, cancellation request, end of the paid period, failed renewal and any supported upgrade or downgrade. Do not extend access twice because both a payment notification and a subscription notification describe the same billing period.

Keep refunds separate from moderation

Prepare an order-linked process for correcting delivery, issuing an appropriate refund through the supported route, and updating the associated benefit.

Do not delete unrelated character progress, publish private buyer details or improvise punishments when a dispute arrives. Keep account moderation separate from the payment investigation.

Tebex’s Creator Agreement describes its role in buyer transactions and disputes, but also requires creator cooperation. It permits deductions in specified circumstances involving creator breaches or failures to assist. Seller protection is not a reason to stop keeping delivery evidence. (Tebex - Gaming Payments Done Right)

Avoid a blanket “no refunds under any circumstances” statement. Applicable consumer rights require separate consideration. For example, EU guidance explains specific consent and acknowledgement requirements for losing withdrawal rights when accessing certain digital content; do not assume every server subscription falls into that same category. (European Union)

9. Test the full purchase lifecycle before launch

A screenshot of a successful checkout proves very little about what happens afterwards.

Use Tebex’s package-testing documentation. It distinguishes Store Test Mode from manual payments: test transactions trigger webhooks, while manual payments do not. Only enable Store Test Mode while the store is private, and disable it before opening to customers.

Use a dedicated test account and record the outcome of each scenario:

TestPassing result
Successful purchaseThe correct account receives the exact benefit once.
Duplicate notificationNo extra entitlement, duplicate item or additional membership time.
Player offlineDelivery remains pending or completes through the intended offline mechanism.
Database or integration outageNo lost purchase; a safe retry completes after recovery.
CancellationRenewal stops and access follows the published paid-period rules.
Failed renewalYour configured expiry behaviour matches the relevant subscription state.
Refund or disputeThe transaction is reconciled and only the appropriate entitlement is changed.
Account-link changeIdentity is verified without inventing another purchase.
Server wipe or restoreEntitlements follow the published wipe policy and are not duplicated.
Mobile checkoutDescriptions, billing information and account selection remain usable.

For each test, retain the reference, relevant logs, expected state and actual state.

Resource creators need an additional precaution: Tebex warns that FiveM assets delivered through manual or test payments cannot be revoked and documents a different subscription-based testing approach. Follow that guidance rather than assuming asset delivery behaves like a removable Discord role.

10. Improve sales without making the server worse

Once delivery is reliable, work on how players discover and understand the offer.

Use genuine screenshots and short demonstrations of the actual benefit. Keep the store easy to find from your website and community navigation, but avoid interrupting roleplay with repeated sales messages.

Explain what support helps fund without making claims you cannot substantiate. A factual maintenance update is more useful than a permanent “emergency” funding banner.

Before adding another package, look for simpler improvements: an unclear description, broken account linking, a missing mobile button, an unanswered support question or an unexpected recurring charge.

Measure the whole journey

Track a small set of metrics:

MetricWhat to investigate
Store visits → purchasesWhether visitors understand and want the offer.
Checkout starts → completed paymentsFriction during checkout or account verification.
Net contribution per purchaseWhat remains after the relevant costs.
Delivery failure ratePurchases not fulfilled within your stated timeframe.
Subscription renewals and cancellationsWhether ongoing membership is being retained.
Refunds and support contactsRepeated problems with expectations, billing or delivery.

Keep test transactions out of your business interpretation. Tebex notes that Store Test Mode transactions appear in sales statistics even though they do not affect earnings statistics.

Change one meaningful part of the offer at a time, then compare the results. A higher order value is not an improvement when it comes with disproportionate support work or refunds.

11. Assign ownership after launch

Choose a named person responsible for checking payment-to-entitlement discrepancies. “Someone will notice in Discord” is not an operating process.

Review paid-but-undelivered purchases, failed jobs, cancelled subscriptions with lingering access, refunds awaiting reconciliation and manual staff adjustments. Keep backups, and test restoration rather than merely confirming that backup files exist.

Limit staff access to the customer information needed for their role. Keep payment details and identity documents out of ordinary Discord support channels, and define retention periods for logs and records.

Tebex acts as the merchant of record under its agreement and handles applicable transaction taxes within that arrangement. Have a qualified adviser review how your business should record payouts, meet its own tax obligations, and handle consumer, privacy and age-related requirements in the jurisdictions involved. FiveM monetization launch checklist

Before accepting real payments, confirm that:

  • The offer has been reviewed: current rules checked, rights documented, exact benefits defined and no misleading donation label.
  • The store is complete: clear pricing, renewal and delivery terms, working support, operator information and required disclosures.
  • Delivery is secure: private secrets, server-side verification, duplicate protection and auditable entitlement records.
  • The lifecycle has been tested: purchase, retry, outage, cancellation, expiry, refund and account-change scenarios.
  • Operations have an owner: reconciliation, backups, support and periodic policy reviews are assigned.

Start with one well-defined package. Verify that buyers receive it reliably, understand the billing and know how to get help. Expand the catalogue only after that foundation is working.

For implementation, continue with the step-by-step Tebex store setup guide.
